Glass doors are a great choice for both homes and businesses, and offer a great many advantages. In this article I'm going to look at specifically what those advantages are, as well as covering possible disadvantages which you should be aware of.

One of the most obvious and appealing benefits of doors made from glass is the fact that they allow light to pass through. For doors which open to the outside there is the benefit of being able to enjoy natural sunlight entering the room. Not only does this sunlight look and feel much more pleasant than artificial light, but it also helps to reduce the need for that artificial lighting, lowering costs as well as representing a greener alternative.

But even in cases where the door is not an exterior one, a glass door still allows light to pass from one room to the other, not only creating a visually more attractive space, but also a more practical one, since there are fewer shadows and darker areas, maximising the efficient use of the room.

One of the possible disadvantages of course with glass is that it does not usually permit privacy. Clearly this is why very few bathrooms have doors made from glass! But there is a way in which you can enjoy the benefits of a glass door being able to allow light to pass through it whilst also enjoying a certain amount of privacy. Frosted glass, or even coloured opaque glass can be used for both partitions and doors to create an attractive feature which also provides the privacy required.

Another benefit of glass as a material for use in doors and partitions is that it is incredibly durable and extremely easy to keep clean. Glass does not rust, or corrode, it is not susceptible to woodworm, and it doesn't collect dust. All that is necessary to keep the glass door or glass partition looking clean and attractive is to give it an occasional wipe with a cloth and some glass cleaner. This is ideal for both businesses and homes.

One of the disadvantages of glass doors is that they are more liable to crack or break if they receive a very sharp knock or heavy blow. However, such a blow would probably cause significant damage to any door, and as they're made of toughened glass, glass doors and partitions are more than tough enough to cope with everyday use, and should not shatter or break revealing sharp edges should a seriously hard knock cause any damage.

Modern digital printing now also enables glass doors to be patterned or to have designs added. This is less useful for homes, but for businesses and commercial properties it provides the opportunity to have company logos or other relevant information included on the glass.

With a choice of colours and many different types of frameless glass doors, including fixed, hinged, sliding and folding systems, there are many benefits worth considering, both for the home and for business environments.

Aluminum Garage Doors - 10 Benefits

When you are refurbishing or extending your house or building a new one you will face the question of which door material to use. Aluminum doors or steel doors? The most commonly used door materials are the aluminium, wood, PVC, steel, but which is better? Let's show the facts and situations to use either aluminium doors or steel doors.

One of the most important characteristics of a door is the durability. The durability greatly depends on the environment where the door is implemented, the conditions of use or the area where it is installed.

Exteriors

This is one of the biggest obstacles for using doors. Although we can use some stainless steel that combines iron, chromium, and many other elements. It can be a little expensive if we want great corrosion resistance and thus, durability. Stainless steel can get marked up with fingerprints and grease, develop discolouration, scratches and eventually rust. In coastal areas, the corrosion issues get worse decreasing the useful life of the steel door, so the maintenance with protective layers of paint is periodically needed.

On the other hand, the aluminium doors are the perfect choice for outsides since it has a natural resistance to corrosion that makes it maintenance free. For example, the aluminium doors are even lighter than their steel counterparts at a very similar price, and the flexibility of the material offers much more profile styles than doors. So let's say aluminium doors are mostly recommended for the steel doors for the outsides unless you need the structural strength of the steel for hard use or safety reasons.

Insides

In this situation, the steel doors are preferred since they are cheaper, safer and more resistant than aluminium since it cannot be kicked and is extremely hard to bend, even using tools. The aluminium counterpart can be more expensive, but it can give a premium feel to the door when the correct door style is used. Additionally, the aluminium doors offer a great variety of finishes and colours that result in a nice look in the right circumstances. The steel doors can be stylish too since they do an excellent job of imitating the wood with the use of some advanced state-of-art door.

Home security

Home intruders are one of the major concerns for every family guy. The best option for security issues are the steel doors since the steel is one of the strongest material to manufacture a door. The steel door won't crack or warp, and there are some high-security steel door models that feature a large number of locks and hinges with different style designs. There is also some high-security doors that use aluminium as a main metal component, so the aluminium doors are not left behind on this subject.

Thermal insulations

Both door presentations are not solid steel or aluminium. They have foam, wood, polyurethane or polystyrene foam or fiberglass core to prevent the heat transfer. So, in this case, both doors have a great thermal insulation that will help you to keep your house warm in the winter and cool in the summer, making them energy efficient.

Esthetics
As mentioned before, the aluminium offers a choice of colours to match the style of your home. Meanwhile, when we want to avoid the rust on the steel, the galvanized steel is recommended. Nonetheless, this kind of steel is not easy to customize or paint. If you want a customized steel door that endures at lifetime, you have to pay for the premium stainless steel, which is not cheap at all. An alternative to premium stainless steel but not as good-looking is a coat of weather-resistant paint since the steel can accept a large variety of paint types but they must be weather-resistant to prevent corrosion and be falling apart because of the rust expansion in the steel door.

Cost

The cost of the steel and aluminium doors depends greatly on the security level, style, and corrosion resistance. The steel doors can be really inexpensive when the corrosion resistance is not required, and its maintenance is easy to do. But if you need corrosion resistance, galvanized steel could be a cheap but not an aesthetic option. The expensive premium steel offers the bests doors in terms of aesthetics, security and endurance options.

In the case of the aluminium doors, they are cheaper than premium steel doors, but they offer improved natural corrosion resistance for a longer useful life. Nonetheless, the aluminium doors are not made for hard use which can hinder its useful life and result in an extra cost by replacing the door after a rigorous use as is in a patio with kids and pets.

Verdict

Both doors have enormous potential in different areas, but if you do not care about saving money, I think the winners are the doors thanks to its great versatility and variety of presentation for almost any budget and environment. The steel doors are a reliable option for security, durability, and aesthetics.

The aluminium doors are quite good as well, they offer a maintenance free material with excellent durability for a reasonable price. However, it lacks structural strength in comparison to the steel doors. You have the ultimate decision to choose the best door that can fit your style, secure and budget requirements.

Aluminium Framed Doors

When building or renovating, people often consider the windows and doors last. After all, don't they all look the same apart from the sizes? And this is ironic when they cover nearly half of the total surface of the house. Whether you choose wooden, iron, concrete or aluminium doors and windows, the right choice can boost the value of the house, provide ample natural lighting, enhance the design and give a feeling of space. Apart from the design, there's also the issue of workability. This pertains to where your windows or doors will be located, how they open, and whether you need enough ventilation or if the door or window just serves their primary purpose.

Comparing Aluminium Vs.Wood

There's a distinct edge in choosing aluminium folding doors over timber and that's less maintenance over their expected lifecycle. You won't have to worry about termites or carpenter bees boring holes in your wooden door or window frames. When you require double glazing, for example, aluminium is the right choice as it is more pliant to accepting the additional embellishment. Make sure, however, to choose the right installers since come companies cutting corners and fail to apply waterproofing techniques which ultimately result to nagging soggy and clammy issues on the frames, window sills and doors.

Choosing the Right Material

Aluminium is also identified as less secure compared to wood but this is not the case when choosing the right company that can install a sliding security door in your home. You only need superior quality aluminium. Be wary about doped aluminium or the lower-grade aluminium alloy. Aluminium is graded according to the purity of the material. Ask the installer if the product passes national standards on thickness and yield strength. This can also be your legal remedy when the installer cuts on corners and install the wrong product. Apart from the practical issues, you also want to ensure the quality of the finished product. Windows and doors are supposed to enhance the look of your house so you don't focus on the functionality alone.

Price Points

The industry is brimming with installers of aluminium windows or folding doors and this is good for the consumers in the sense that competition drives prices down. Remember, the right windows and doors will look light on your home, introduce elegance, offer durability (which means less cost on maintenance), perfect for contemporary-style homes, and gives the appearance of space.

· Operate power tools carefully according to manufacturer's instructions

What is weatherstripping?

Weatherstripping is sealing the sliding panels from the elements of the weather by an insulation strip. This has to be replaced when it gets worn out.

What are the things to watch out for in automatic sliding doors

· Installation is not easy - the tracks have to be perfectly aligned, and more than one person is required to install a sliding door.

· The track attracts dirt because it is a series of grooves in which dirt accumulates very fast

· The doors get jammed sometimes because of the rust and dirt of the metal parts. They have to be changed in this case. Regular oiling helps too.

· If there is a power cut, they will get jammed and they have to be forced open.

While aluminium is a very versatile material and aluminium doors can be suitably installed in a variety of indoor and outdoor contexts, two of the best places for the installation of aluminium doors are in industrial locations and as barriers between the inside and outside.

Aluminium doors are ideally suited to being installed as a barrier between indoor and outdoor environments because of their weatherproof and durable nature. This makes them a top choice for patio doors and café or bar doors leading to courtyards. Aluminium is one of best materials for patio door frames because the metal is a strong and very low-maintenance product. The advantages of installing aluminium framed doors as barriers between in and outdoors are largely due to the natural properties of the metal which make it resistant to corrosion as well as being impermeable and odourless. The aluminium framed doors do not rust and provide premium stability if installed correctly. Not only do doors of aluminium come in an extensive range of powder coated colours, they can also be carefully patterned for various aesthetic effects. Finally, aluminium framed doors are one of the best doors to be installed between interior and exterior because they won't warp or swell in damp conditions as wooden doors often do.

One of the second locations where doors of aluminium are best installed is in the heavy duty contexts of factories and warehouses where they are often the number one choice for a variety of applications. The popularity of aluminium doors in these environments is due again to the naturally strong, durable and low-maintenance nature of the metal. Aluminium is able to withstand any of the bumps and scrapes that are customary during the movement and transport of industrial machinery and products. Doors for industrial locations are made from large, high-strength metal panels that withstand the passage of oversize cargo and bulky machinery. Another reason why aluminium doors are such a top choice for heavy duty purposes is because the metal can be thermally treated to be scratch and dent resistant.

These are just too of the most popular locations for aluminium framed doors, but really, with such a versatile metal, the possible applications are endless. As well as providing a practical patio door and industrial door solution, glass and aluminium doors can be used inside the home in bathrooms and bedrooms as well as in the interiors or offices and other commercial constructions.

Aluminium Profile

When purchasing your aluminum profile system, it is important to use aluminum profile systems that represent the latest in technological progress. They are available and many have highly competitive prices.

What is an aluminum profile system?

Aluminum profile systems are extruded shapes (tubing, bar stock, angles, rods, ducts, channels, air supply systems, pipe racks, etc.) made from aluminum. Extrusion is a process by which different aluminum shapes are formed from a cylindrical hydraulic press. The press forces the aluminum through the die and the extruded aluminum results in the desire shape.

What is the history of aluminum extrusions?

Patented in 1970, the extrusion process was first used to make lead pipes. Lead, copper, iron, and steel have a much longer history than aluminum, which was first identified in 1807.

At first aluminum was considered more precious than gold. However, with the advent of the smelting process and the modern hot extrusion process in the 1880's, it became extremely affordable. Aluminum, the metal most used for extrusion, can now be used with both hot and cold extrusion processes.

What are the benefits of an aluminum profile system?

There are many reasons why an aluminum system is preferred over other tooling. Some of the most important reasons are that it is not only affordable, but also durable, lightweight, and corrosion resistant - and many of the components are reusable, thus lowering the cost.

Respected manufacturers of aluminum profile promise shortened lead times, which is very important to most customers. This is possible because fewer tools are required to produce the final product, the designs are simple, and no welding or painting is required.

These manufacturers usually have a large stock of shapes and finishes on hand. If a customer needs a shape different that what is normally carried, that shape can be custom-made.

What are the uses of aluminum profile systems?

After World War II, when aluminum extrusions were used in the manufacturing of aircraft and other military uses, new uses were quickly found to be applicable for other industries. Aluminum extrusion is even used in the space industry.

If you are not familiar with the uses of aluminum profile in today's world, you might be surprised to know that they are used in computers, fixtures, everyday household appliances, home furnishings and interior design, power tools, and window frames.

In the world of manufacturing, aluminum systems are used in conveyor frames, fixtures, construction, protective barriers, work tables, electrical components, work bins, car radiators, automobile body and frame components, drive shafts and cylinder liners, and in special and series machines.

Aluminum Door Frame Extrusions

Aluminum doors are a popular choice for commercial properties adding strength and durability and reducing the risk of the door being broken down. While these may seem a great choice, especially from modern buildings, they do offer their own advantages and disadvantages that you need to be aware of.

Aluminum doors come with a host of advantages, which is what makes them such a popular choice in the commercial and industrial industries. These are also increasing in popularity in modern homes, where homeowners are looking to add that industrial chic to their finished design.

One of the biggest advantages to this option is the stability, strength and durability that these doors provide. Aluminum is exceptionally strong and this is displayed by the quality and strength of these products, which can last for many years, often outlasting many of the other materials available on the market today.

They work exceptionally well in buildings which have already incorporated aluminum windows, blending the two together to create a beautifully finished building that will stand the test of time.

Another advantage to these products is their ability to stand up in any weather conditions. It doesn't matter if you are based in the heart of the dessert or on the coast, which is constantly plagued by sea air. These products are weatherproof and strong and can handle vast temperature changes without signs of wear and tear.

You will find that aluminum doors are available from most suppliers, which is always a huge advantage. They can be found in most suppliers around the world and do not require that you hunt for them. If you have already chosen this material for your entry, then you should be able to find a reputable supplier who can supply and install the product for you in the shortest space of time.

Only in cases where the door is custom made will this process take longer, but in the majority of cases the supplier will have a number of doors in various sizes readily available and just waiting to be installed.

A huge advantage for any business owners is to know that their door won't require much maintenance over the years. The good news is that aluminum doors don't rust, so they are ideal in any climate, especially those that are close to the sea. Salty air can be exceptionally damaging, but these products are treated ensuring that they can withstand anything that is thrown their way.

Everything available on the market comes with some disadvantages and aluminum doors are no different. There are some cons to using these products over the other materials available on the market.

One of the disadvantages is that they tend to stain from constant water. If your building is in a very wet area which sees a lot of rain, you can expect some marks which will increase over time. While the product won't rust, the marks can be rather unsightly, so this needs to be taken into consideration when making a final decision on whether these are the right choice for your business or building.

Another disadvantage is that these can be more expensive that the other products available on the market. The metal prices are constantly fluctuating which makes it exceptionally difficult to budget until you have the product on order.

Most suppliers will be able to give you a final price when you ask for an estimate. Also bear in mind that because these are such high quality doors, they do require specialist installers who have experience with these products, ensuring they are installed to the highest standard.

Choosing someone to handle the installation that aren't knowledgeable on aluminum doors can result in you having to call out a repair company much sooner than anticipated.

Having lived with all three types of windows and patio doors in the past three years, I feel that I am an 'expert user' when it comes to opening and closing in each medium: wood, pvc and aluminium.

First, the novice's choice: wood. It looks great, feels warm, can be stained a medium or dark shade or painted any colour of the spectrum. It's an age-old medium so what can go wrong? The main problems are humidity and strong sunlight.

There are varying qualities of wood on offer, depending on your budget. A moderately-priced pair of French doors on a south-facing house wall suffered a degree of warping, creating gaps that had to be plugged each winter in an attempt to keep the cold draughts at bay whereas, in warmer damp circumstances, the door had to be forcibly pushed and pulled back into its aperture.

Two good summers and the four coats of varnish had virtually vapourised, revealing cracking wood that needed nourishing and protecting from the next couple of years' weather.

Second, the double-glazing salesman's special offer: PVC. Overpriced by a couple of well-known companies who then discount by 50% if you hesitate, PVC is also available in varying qualities. At the higher end of the market, the frames are often reinforced with metal.

Generally with more features than wooden doors and windows, PVC should not require much more than a quick wipe with a damp cloth for the first few years and its looks are therefore easier to maintain. We have some PVC French Doors from the lower price range. As value for money, they are quite good but an element of trust is lacking in terms of defence against determined intruders. They feel floppy and flimsy when opening and closing and there's a knack to locking and unlocking them successfully. We have older PVC doors from the higher price range and, whilst more sturdy (reinforced with metal) they are looking a tad ratty.

The PVC windows screeched with wind whistling through, like semi-detached tinnitus.

Thirdly and finally, the long term investment: powder-coated aluminium frames. If you are fed up with sanding down wooden frames and considering the easy option of PVC or coated aluminium, particularly for a wide opening with multi-folding doors. Consider whether PVC is up to the task of substituting for the wall of your house.

Stand back and look through closed doors at the difference between PVC and aluminium - it is very noticeable. With PVC, there are windows of scenery between wide areas of plastic (two frames together might measure between 8 and 10 inches, 20 to 25cms) so the doors block up to 20 per cent of the potential view and light-source.

Aluminium frames on bifolding doors from manufacturer SunSeeker Doors, being stronger, are only about 2 inches or 5 centimeters. The profile is also considerably smaller so the doors use far less space than PVC or wood when folded back. For those who want color, several options are available to order, the most popular (after standard white) are: Grey, blue, green, brown and silver. Aluminium Frames are more expensive than cheap PVC or wood but prices are comparable with the better quality PVC doors. Is aluminum worth the extra cost? If you want the "wow" factor, strength, longevity, maximum living space and the most panoramic view,Yes.

Aluminium Framed Doors

Bifold doors are expensive but well worth the investment if you are considering renovations. Your house opens up to the garden and creates an amazing aesthetic when these doors are installed. It pays to exercise caution and care in a selection of the doors and consider various factors.

Price is not everything

The cheapest is not the best and the most expensive also is not necessarily the best. A Bifold door is not just panels put together; it is an entire system where design, engineering precision and choice of hardware plays an important in the door's looks and performance just as much as the bifold door installation does. Buying a well known international brand with local support is a good option.

Material of door

Bifolds can have wood, steel, uPVC or aluminum section frames. Wood can obstruct the view and be heavy. uPVC material can flex and distort which will affect the working of the door and there is a size limitation as well. Steel can be heavy. Aluminum is the best material for sections. It is relatively stable and does not tend to distort with temperature variations. From the maintenance point too aluminum scores because powder coated or natural anodized aluminum does not need frequent paint or maintenance.

Top hung or bottom rolling?

Bifold doors are available as top hung or bottom rolling types. If a strong enough beam is present then the top hung type is best because it does not collect leaves and debris and the frame conceals the mechanism from view.

Hardware and installation

Hardware is complex with bifold doors and must be precision engineered from quality materials besides being fitted just right during installation. Improper alignment can affect performance and cause stress on frames besides making the door hard to open and close. Quality systems have wheels that run on flat tracks and pivoted end doors for smooth movement even when the jamb does not allow much adjustment. Bifold door installation is important too when it comes to getting the threshold right to prevent rain seepage and yet creating a smooth transition that does not cause one to stub one's toes. Rain penetration is an important matter especially if the door is exposed. This is where the expertise of installer comes into play to provide a perfectly rebated rain-proof threshold. Security is another aspect to consider in the matter of bifold door hardware and a typical secure door would have multipoint locking system with shoot bolt for intermediate panels.

Single or double glazing

Energy conservation is important so double glazing is recommended. It will also provide some degree of acoustic insulation. Quality manufacturers provide U-values of 1.8w/sqmK or lower for such energy efficient bifold doors.

Screening

There are times when one may want an unimpeded view and there are times when one may want to shut out the light. Curtains are good but can impede the view. Venetian blinds that roll up all the way to the top may be ideal. If you choose a double glazed door then the blinds may be incorporated into the panels but at the cost of impeding the view. It is best to coordinate with the installer and clear this point as well before ordering a bifold door.

How are they assembled?

· When they are shipped, the instructions for installation accompany them.

· The instructions are to be read fully

· Two or more people are required to install it

· Be careful when handling the glass

Metal fabrication equipment is used in important facets of the manufacturing industry. It serves the structural steel industry very well as it helps in other metal fabricating industries. Producers of this equipment have clients ranging from small and medium size enterprises to iron and fabricating shops and large construction companies.

The most common types of metal fabrication equipment include hydraulic press brakes, pinch rolls, plate shears, bending machines, tube benders and plate rolls. All these machines will help the entire workload easier. Look into the features of these types of equipment.

Hydraulic press brakes

Hydraulic press brakes are created to deliver the kind of ease and comfort an operator is looking for in the product. They are equipped with a ram system to provide maximum efficiency on operator control. Down stroking ram systems are favored over up stroking systems because they lessen operator fatigue. The system with a thick ram makes it easier to move in between extra heavy frames. Alongside with this component, a steel torsion is also utilized. At times, the hydraulic press brake contains limit switches and overload protection systems. Speeds of the press brakes are adjustable and controllable as well.

Hydraulic shears

This is yet another type of metal fabrication equipment used in order to make the job of individuals easier. Looking for those with foot pedals and emergency stops is highly favorable for the company. Programmable axes may help control blade gaps, stroke length, back gauge and shearing times. At times, the shears are also commendable for its capacity to transfer balls and load metal sheets. It also possesses a full protection guard system. Shears are used in order to provide smooth and quiet operation while cutting or manufacturing metal parts.

Plate bending machines

Plate bending machines vary according to specifications of the particular industry making use of this industrial product. There are goods that are best suited for small to medium production requirement for pipes, angles, flats and tubes. Ornamental and job shops will surely favor this type of bending machine. There are plate bending machines that are versatile enough with hydraulic forming features. This is commendable in industries were pipe, tube and aluminum extrusion bending is required.

There are other types of metal fabrication equipment sold by a lot of manufacturers. At times, this equipment may be available from second hand machine stores. What matters is that the machine will work for the particular manufacturing process it has to serve.

How Manufacturers Do Aluminum Extrusion?

How To Make Aluminium Windows And Doors

Aluminum doors are once popular in the home building industry. With the changes in architectural taste, however, many people opted for different styles of sliding doors. Nonetheless, even when the interest in this type of door has already declined, it still has various advantages that could not be provided by other types of doors.

For one, aluminum pocket doors are great space savers. They could be used in several instances when space is an issue. For example, a room which could not be fixed with a hinge door could make use of a pocket door. This is the case when there is a permanent obstruction along the pathway where the door swings. Since the door runs along a hidden track and vanishes inside a pocket in the wall, there is no longer a need to open the door fully by swinging. Thus, the door does not require more space before it could be opened. Also, a pocket door could effectively replace a standard door when there is no other way but hide the door inside the walls.

Aluminum sliding doors is also a great alternative to ordinary wood, vinyl or plastic doors. This is because the doors are predicted to capture the future trend in home designing alongside glass and other metals.

There are downsides to using the doors though. For one, these doors could not be used in places where there are extreme temperatures as aluminum tends to adopt to the temperature of its surrounding. This would not help neutralize the heat or the coldness inside a room, for example. Also, aluminum, unlike wood, glass and fiberglass doors, tends not to blend in with most architectural design. For instance, the doors would not work well with Victorian-style inspired homes. They are, however, common among conventional houses where steal panels and other metals are used in decorating the house.

Also, one cannot really play well with colors on the doors. Usually, homeowners have to settle with the metallic look. This doesn't say that the natural aluminum surface is not good. In fact it is. However, for people who are fond of playing with colors, the doors may not be the best choice.

Another drawback to using the doors is that they tend to catch the atmosphere of large kitchens since they are usually associated with the kitchen doors of most restaurants. But again, this may not be as bad at all since many people actually love to create a certain atmosphere in their kitchen that may only be contributed to metals.

A change of look is what a sliding door could give when used in residential homes. In the industrial settings however, they have become the mainstay.

High strength aluminium alloys.

The origin of aluminium alloys in aircraft construction started with the first practical all-metal aircraft in 1915 made by Junkers in Germany, of materials said to be `iron and steel'. Steel presented the advantages of a high modulus of elasticity, high proof stress and high tensile strength. Unfortunately these were accompanied by a high specific gravity, almost three times that of the aluminium alloys and about ten times that of plywood. Aircraft designers during the 1930s were therefore forced to use steel in its thinnest forms. To ensure stability against buckling of the thin plate, intricate shapes for spar sections were devised.

In 1909 Alfred Wilm, in Germany, accidentally discovered that an aluminium alloy containing 3.5 per cent copper, 0.5 per cent magnesium and silicon and iron, as unintended impurities, spontaneously hardened after quenching from about 480°C. The patent rights of this material were acquired by Durener Metallwerke who marketed the alloy under the name Duralumin. For half a century this alloy has been used in the wrought heat-treated, naturally aged condition. The improvements in these properties produced by artificial ageing at a raised temperature of, for example, 175°C, were not exploited in the aircraft industry until about 1934.

In addition to the development of duralumin (first used as a main structural material by Junkers in 1917) three other causes contributed to the replacement of steel by aluminium alloys. These were a better understanding of the process of heat treatment, the introduction of extrusions in a wide range of sections and the use of pure aluminium cladding to provide greater resistance to corrosion. By 1938, three groups of aluminium alloys dominated the field of aircraft construction and, in fact, they retain their importance to the present day. The groups are separated by virtue of their chemical composition, to which they owe their capacity for strengthening under heat treatment.

The first group is contained under the general name duralumin having a typical composition of: 4 per cent copper, 0.5 per cent magnesium, 0.5 per cent manganese, 0.3 per cent silicon, 0.2 per cent iron, with the remainder aluminium. The naturally aged version was covered by Air Ministry Specification DTD 18 issued in 1924, while artificially aged duralumin came under Specification DTD 111 in 1929. DTD 111 provided for slight reductions in 0.1 per cent proof stress and tensile strength.

The second group of aluminium alloys differs from duralumin chiefly by the introduction of 1 to 2 per cent of nickel, a high content of magnesium and possible variations in the amounts of copper, silicon and iron. `Y' alloy, the oldest member of the group, has a typical composition of. 4 per cent copper, 2 per cent nickel, 1.5 cent magnesium, the remainder being aluminium and was covered by Specification DTD 58A issued in 1927. Its most important property was its retention of strength at high temperatures, which meant that it was a particularly suitable material for aero engine pistons. Its use in airframe construction has been of a limited nature only. Research by Rolls-Royce and development by High Duty Alloys Ltd produced the `RR' series of alloys. Based on Y alloy, the RR alloys had some of the nickel replaced by iron and the copper reduced. One of the earliest of these alloys, RR56 had approximately half of the 2 per cent nickel replaced by iron, the copper content reduced from 4 to 2 per cent, and was used for forgings and extrusions in aero engines and airframes.

The third and latest group depends upon the inclusion of zinc and magnesium and their high strength. Covered by Specification DTD 363 issued in 1937, these alloys had a nominal composition: 2.5 per cent copper, 5 per cent zinc, 3 per cent magnesium and up to 1 per cent nickel. In modern versions of this alloy nickel has been eliminated and provision made for the addition of chromium and further amounts of manganese.

Aircraft structural aluminium.

Of the three basic structural materials, namely wood, steel and aluminium alloy, only wood is no longer of significance except in laminates for non-structural bulkheads, floorings and furnishings. Most modern aircraft still rely on modified forms of the high strength aerospace aluminium alloys which were introduced during the early part of the 20th century. Steels are used where high strength, high stiffness and wear resistance are required. Other materials, such as titanium and fibre-reinforced composites first used about 1950, are finding expanding uses in airframe construction.

How to Choose Quality Aluminum Windows and Doors

Extrusion is the process to change the structure and shape of different metals. Some of the metals that are commonly extruded include aluminium, copper, lead, magnesium, zinc, titanium etc.

As aluminium is malleable in nature, it is easy to extrude. Specific dies are used for the aluminium extrusion process. These steel dies have opening of the desired shapes. Primarily, this process can be of two types - hot and cold. For hot process, precise heating is very important. It is done above the aluminium's recrystallization temperature. While, cold process is done at room temperature or near room temperature.

To obtain superior quality and improved surface finished aluminium extrusions, accurate temperate and its monitoring is vital. The finishing increases the durability, strength and its appearance. In the process, a billet is heated at the temperature of 400 C to 500 C and is pushed through the die under pressure to create preferred profiles. The shape, structure and specifications vary according to the requirements of the product, customers and its application.

The company's manufacturing aluminium extrusions prefer extrusion process over welding as it gives product with constant cross section. The strength and lightweight (strength-to-weight ratio) of this metal makes it popular among customers. Its several other properties gives it edge over other metals. These are cost-effective, corrosion-resistive, flexible and durable.

The prime source of aluminium is bauxite ore and Feldspar to some extent. Some of the fields where the this metal's extruded shapes are used include transportation, building and construction to name a few.

Aluminum is one of the most used metals in today’s society – Storm Window Frame Extrusions in List   it can be found across a number of industries, such as construction and commercial, and in a number of applications, such as beverage cans and appliances. When choosing a manufacturer of aluminium extrusion for supplying the metal that you use in your workplace, however, it is important that you carefully consider which one will be best for your needs.

Aluminum Framing System

The manufacturer will begin by removing the aluminium from deep within the earth’s crust (either as bauxite ore or feldspar). Often, the Bayer’s method, Wohler’s method or Hall Heroult method is chosen to remove the metal in its molten form. It is then hardened and moulded into whatever shape the manufacturer desires. When the aluminium is extracted from the earth in its solid form, Aluminum Window Frame Extrusions it will be passed through a number of mechanical processes that are designed to give the metal its desired shape. These processes include: rolling, drawing, forging, spinning, piercing and extrusion.

Regardless of whether aluminium has been found in its molten or solid form, the manufacturer will then pass it through either a hot working or cold working process to prepare it for their customers. When using the hot working process (the most popular of the two), a billet will be heated to a temperature of over 79 degrees Celsius, which will allow the aluminium to be easily distorted and placed into its desired shape.

The reason for the popularity of the hot working process over the cold working one can be fully realized when you compare aluminium extrusion to squeezing toothpaste out of its tube. It is much easier to extrude the metal when it is malleable, meaning that it must have been heated to a certain temperature.

Finally, the aluminium will pass through an extrusion and drawing process that runs almost parallel to each other. This is the final step in the whole extrusion process and is the step that gives the metal its entire shape. Deep drawing, for example, is used give the metal a cup, conical tapered, cylinder and seamless tube shape. For less curved shapes, Aluminum Z Extrusion the drawing process is skipped.
